For the past few years all schools have been allocated money to be used to promote and improve the level of physical education within schools. At the moment this funding is going to continue to be in place until 2019-2020. The key areas which we will be focusing on this school year are shown in our action plan:

Sports Premium 2018-2019 – updated January 2019
We had another successful year (2018-2019) with 90% of children attending an after school club, we are going to continue to offer a range of after school clubs and other sporting opportunities for the children to enjoy. Miss Kirton, our sport’s teaching assistant, is working well both across the curriculum and in out of school hours clubs. During 2018 – 2019 we had a variety of after schools clubs including: football club for KS2, KS2 nature club, KS2 basketball, KS2 tag rugby, KS1 activity club as well as play leaders from year 5 and 6 running activities at lunch time and break time. We attended a variety of festivals and competitions including: year 3/ 4 tag rugby festival, year 5/6 tag rugby competition, year 5/6 basketball competition, KS1 athletics festival, year 3/4 cricket festival. In addition we compete in the football central venue league at Parkside Academy. We change our clubs regularly and seek advice from the children to see what their interests are. If anyone would like any more information about sports clubs please come and see Miss Mawson.
Sports’ Leaders
To be a sports’ leader we completed an application form and then had an interview, after this process 12 of us were chosen to be Sports’ Leaders. We started the year off by leading an assembly to promote the Aldi promotion – where we had to try and get 300 stickers to be able to win a Sport’s Kit and also to be put into a draw to win £20,000. We hope we win as we would like to be able to bring something healthy to the school which can be sustainable. In the first half of Spring term we are going to be running a Change For Life program as well as continuing to develop our play time and lunch time games.
Swimming
Swimming is an important skill and can encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. All Local Authority schools must provide swimming instruction either in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.
The programme of study for PE sets out the expectation that pupils should be taught to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]. Breathing is also an important part of this skill.
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
