Our violinists performed for us in assembly on Wednesday 5th July. They showed off their musical work that they have been developing all year. They performed ‘Paganini’ and ‘Violin Star’. Well done girls, you were fantastic!

Our Year 1’s and 2’s visited Burnhill on Tuesday 4th July (otherwise known as the wettest day ever!).
The children came into school very excited about their trip, despite the hideous wet weather outside! They remained eager and enthusiastic throughout the whole day, despite the rain not stopping once!
They enjoyed making parts to go into the ‘Bug Hotel’ and then moved on to weave on the willow sculpture (which they were very disappointed was not finished yet as it would have provided a cover from the rain!).
In the afternoon, we enjoyed pond dipping and caught many different types of pond life.
Thank you to Mr Bell for a fantastic day of outdoor activities. The only complaint of the day from the children was that Miss Dobson had not done her job of booking nice sunny weather for Class 4’s visit!

On Thursday 22nd of June, a number of Year 4, 5, and 6’s attended a cricket competition at Hunwick Cricket Ground. All the children put their newly found batting, bowling and fielding skills to use and a special mention needs to go out to Callum, who despite never having played cricket at school before, was able to bowl accurately and even managed to get spin on his ball. All the children worked fantastically as part of a team, encouraging each other the whole time. Overall, our teams came a modest 4th and 5th. A huge well done to all those involved.
Durham Cathedral and Saints – British Values Day
On 30th June 2017, the whole school looked at Durham Cathedral and local saints as part of our British Values celebration days.
The children learnt about the history of Durham Cathedral and its role within Durham City today. They learnt about St Cuthbert; his life and his work. Some of the children also did art work linked to the Rose Window in Durham Cathedral.

Our KS2 children are taking part in the Daily Mile challenge. They started doing this after May half term and are building up their stamina to complete the mile daily and get quicker at doing so. We are all really impressed with their positive attitude and determination towards this, well done KS2!

A fantastic day full of activities!
The year 5’s were split up and placed into mixed school groups. In these groups, they all made new friends and bonded with new people in order to take part in challenges to build, make, balance and communicate.
Basketball Years 5 and 6
The year 5 and 6’s took part in a basketball tournament at Bishop Barrington. The games were played to determine which schools went through to the Level 3 tournament. Although we didn’t win enough games to make it to the next level, the children were full of energy, giving it their all and working on their technique.
Well done to everyone who took part!

KS1 Farm to Fork Tesco Visit
Our KS1 pupils went on a trip to our local Tesco superstore at Consett. The children took part in the ‘sustainability trail’ while they were there. They learnt about where bananas come from, cocoa beans and also different types of fish.
They had a great time exploring the store and also getting to try different foods.

Class 4 have worked with Mrs Chesters to decorate cakes to help us raise money for school fund. The children really enjoyed decorating the cakes and being the real life ‘shopkeeper’ when other children came to buy the cakes.
We made a fantastic total of £43.85. Thank you to everyone who bought cakes!
