St George’s Day – British Values Day
As part of our British Values work we celebrated St George’s day. The children across the school enjoyed learning about St George and sharing their knowledge in an assembly for parents on April 28th. They were intrigued to find out that St George never actually came to England and yet he is our patron saint.

Celebrations – Spring Term
On Thursday 6th April, we welcomed parents, family and friends to our assembly – Celebrations. The assembly included handing out our half termly behaviour certificates, our 100% attendance vouchers and singing a selection of songs from our Easter service.
The highlight of the assembly for the children was finding out the results of the Easter egg decorating competition. On Wednesday 5th April, all children in school decorated an egg and these were then judged choosing a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize for each class.
Well done to everyone, there were some fantastic ideas and designs this year!

EYFS Christening at St Philip’s and St James’ Church
In March, our Reception children went to St Philip’s and St James’ Church in Tow Law to learn about christenings. They all took part in the pretend service and really engaged in the sequence of events. Thank you to Rev Whalley for supporting us and making it possible for this activity to take place.

Our children were visited by Dwaine Pipe once again in the performance ‘You’ve been flushed’ by Gibber Productions, in association with Northumbrian Water. They were reminded that ′only toilet paper, pee and poo go down the loo′ throughout the performance. Everything else makes Dwaine “sick”, so should be binned, or disposed of in other ways. The children learnt this through the acting, singing and dancing.

Children can also play ‘Dwaine Dash’, a free downloaded app.
Easter Service
Parents and Rev Lowes joined staff and pupils at St Philip’s and St James’ church on 31st March 2017 to celebrate the Easter Service. Children gave readings and sang lovely songs to tell the Easter Story. Everyone enjoyed the service with the children speaking clearly and confidently. Rev Lowes told staff at the end of the service how lovely the children sang ‘Lord of the Dance’, including all the verses.

On Monday 27th March, we had a fantastic production in school called ‘Super Splash Heroes’. The production was by Gibber Productions, in association with Northumbrian Water, and the aim was to help our children become “water wise”. They visited school to let the children know all about the importance of water conservation and how they can be Super Splash Heroes and save more water at home.
